The core engagement

What is Business DNA?

Business DNA is how your company actually works. The pricing rules. The judgment calls. The follow-up that happens because you remembered. It lives in your head, your conversations, your key people’s habits, and a dozen disconnected tools — and almost none of it is written down.

That’s why owners can’t step back, can’t bring someone in, and can’t sell: everything is stuck in their head. The Business DNA Map gets it out — extracted, drawn, and written down as something the business owns.

How the mapping works.

No rip-and-replace, no new software on day one. We map before we change anything — because the wrong build creates more complexity, and the right build only reveals itself once the system is visible.

  1. Step 1

    Extract

Sit with you and your key people. Walk the real workflows — the official ones and the workarounds. Gather the source truth: how it actually happens, not how it's supposed to.

  2. Step 2

    Map

Draw the business end to end: every handoff, every re-entry, every decision that routes through you. The wire map makes the invisible operating system visible.

  3. Step 3

    Score

Quantify what the map shows. Where revenue leaks, where time disappears, and how much of the company still depends on your memory.

  4. Step 4

    Prescribe

Rank the fixes by value. You get the 90-day roadmap and a fixed quote for the first build — and a clear-eyed answer if the honest recommendation is to change nothing yet.

Five artifacts you keep. Nothing vague.

Every engagement produces the same five deliverables. They’re yours — whether or not we ever build anything together.

No. 1

Wire Map

A drawing of the whole business on one page: how a lead becomes money in the bank, where information gets re-entered or remembered, which decisions route through you, and where the value leaks are — marked in red. Most owners have never seen their company this way. It changes the conversation immediately.

No. 2

Business DNA Document

The operating truth of the business, written down: how you price, how decisions get made, what your key people know that nobody ever documented, the customer patterns, the exceptions, the rules of thumb. The knowledge that currently lives in heads, texts, and spreadsheets becomes something the business owns.

No. 3

Workflow Files

Your three to five highest-value processes — quote follow-up, job-to-invoice handoff, new customer intake — documented step by step. Clear enough that a new hire, a teammate, or a system can run them without asking you.

No. 4

Leak & Independence Scorecard

Two numbers every owner should know: where revenue is leaking, and how dependent the business is on you. Scored against what we actually find — not guessed, not benchmarked off someone else's business.

No. 5

90-Day Roadmap

What to fix first, what fixing it is worth, and a fixed quote for the first build. If we never work together again, you still know exactly what to do next — in priority order, with the reasoning shown.

Sized to your business, quoted before we start.

The range reflects size and complexity — a four-person shop maps faster than a forty-person operation. Most engagements take a few weeks and a handful of your hours. You’ll know your exact number up front.

$2,500 – $7,500

Fixed quote · No meter running

Fair questions.

What does it cost?

Between $2,500 and $7,500, based on the size and complexity of your business. You get one fixed number before we start, and it doesn't change. The first conversation costs nothing.

How long does it take — and how much of my time?

Most maps take a few weeks start to finish. Your part is a handful of hours: sit-down conversations and honest walkthroughs with me. No homework, no forms to fill out.

What do I actually walk away with?

Five things, all yours to keep: a one-page map of how your business actually runs, your operating knowledge written down, step-by-step guides for your most important processes, a scorecard showing where money leaks and where everything depends on you, and a prioritized 90-day plan.

Who actually does the work — you or a team?

Me, directly. The person you meet in the first hour is the same person sitting in your shop, talking with your team, and drawing the map. No handoffs, no juniors.

Will you make us switch software?

No. Nothing gets ripped out or replaced during the map. Most businesses don't need new tools nearly as much as they need to see how the ones they already have actually connect.

My records are a mess. Is that a problem?

It's normal — and honestly, it's why this works. The mess is where the leaks hide. You don't need to clean anything up before we start. Bring the business as it actually is.

What happens with my information?

Everything we build lives in accounts you own and control, with access you can revoke at any time. What I learn about your business is never shared, reused, or shopped to anyone — competitor or otherwise.

Is this an AI thing?

AI shows up where it's useful — after your business is understood, never as the starting point. You don't need to be technical, and your team doesn't need to learn anything new for the map to happen.

Do you come to us? Do you work outside Utah?

I'm based in Draper, Utah, and the best mapping happens in person — there's no substitute for standing in your shop. For the right business I'll travel, and parts of the work can happen over video. If you're further out, ask. It's a conversation, not a rule.

The Granite Table is where agreements are made. Everything happens on top of the table — every fee, every step, in plain view.

The first hour is free and honest. If mapping your Business DNA is the right next step, you'll know exactly what it costs before we start. If it isn't, you'll know that too.
